The DuPont™ Stormroom™

Mill Creek Lumber & Supply is proud to offer our customers aboveground storm shelter systems from DuPont®.

The DuPont™ StormRoom™ with KEVLAR® is an aboveground, in-home tornado shelter, designed by building scientists at DuPont. When properly installed by authorized professionals, it helps protect families from tornadoes and their greatest danger, wind-driven debris. This specialty room looks like a small room inside a house or garage and is ideal for both new and existing residential construction on a concrete slab foundation. The DuPont StormRoom™ with KEVLAR® can be finished both inside and out to match the walls of a home. The shelter is ventilated and electricity and plumbing can be installed. KEVLAR® does not interfere with reception, allowing the use of cellular phones and portable televisions inside the room.

The DuPont StormRoom™ with KEVLAR® is a panelized room system with KEVLAR® engineered into the wall design. KEVLAR® helps absorb the impact of wind-driven debris in accordance with the national criteria for aboveground tornado shelters established by FEMA. The national criteria requires that the room withstand the impact from a 15lb 2’x4’ structural timber moving at 100 mph. The panelized system with KEVLAR® is lighter than current aboveground steel and concrete shelters and can be installed without special equipment in less than a day.
